A Trip to Carnegie Mellon

Having lived in Oakland for the majority of my life, I was born in India, I've never had the opportunity to live in a "big" city. I've only lived in the suburbs. When it came time for choosing colleges, I definitely didn't want to end up in another suburban city *cough* *cough* Ann Arbor *cough* *cough* and so I looked elsewhere.

I became quickly fixated with Carnegie Mellon. Pittsburgh, where Carnegie Mellon is located, is an odd city. It's got a big city feel without actually being a big city. Rather than trying to describe Pittsburgh, here's a picture that I took when I went there (funny how I committed to a school I hadn't even visited :P)

blogger compression is so bad :(
Pittsburgh has a medium sized downtown with SKYSCRAPERS!!! I'm so excited to be going to a college in a city with SKYSCRAPERS! In any case, the rest of Pittsburgh, outside of the main college town, is just run of the mill suburbs which is a nice taste of home. Having been to MIT countless times, I can say without hesitation that I absolutely hate Boston. I really hate the super big city feel of Boston and in the slim change that I would've got in, I would not have enjoyed my time there. Pittsburgh has lots of green space (you can kinda see it in the pictures by the rivers), whereas Boston is just densely packed city.

The campus of Carnegie Mellon is so nice too, it's at the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, and the campus is nice and small too. Most of the buildings are new and the insides of all the buildings are so nice; I sound a bit like a CMU shill but I'm just so excited to be going there. For the small campus that it has, it has so much green space. When I went to visit students were playing volleyball and tossing footballs around; there was an indie concert there as well; they even had a few cherry blossoms near their tennis courts! It was such a pretty campus.
